6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (4 Sept - Results & Review)
4. Everyone Wants A Piece Of Sami
You've got to give WWE credit: That’s 2 weeks in a row we’ve had a fairly standard opening promo train and it’s worked. Gunther said the show wouldn’t start unless he got Sami Zayn. Then, Sami then laid it out for everybody by saying “nobody sleeps until I sleep”. In other words, nobody gets a thing until he’s WWE Champion again, and he’ll interrupt title or contendership matches any chance he gets.
Finn Bálor and Kevin Owens also joined the hunt for Zayn after he screwed them last week too, which was logical. If they'd stayed put backstage whilst hearing Sami bumping his gums, then they would've looked like morons. If there's one thing fans can say about KO, it's that he doesn't like to come across as a one-dimensional, thick pro wrestling character. Realism counts in the world of Owens, and everyone knows it.
He was hot on Sami's trail throughout the show. Like a man possessed, he sprinted down the aisle way like Typhoon joining the lunch line at the free buffet back at the 1993 Royal Rumble (credit: Bobby Heenan). Kev's fire was believable, and Zayn knew he was in trouble so winged it out of there like he was moonlighting as Typhoon too. Or Charles Robinson that time he ran to the ring like he was being chased by a hungry lion.
SmackDown kicked off with one of its biggest plot points: Sami Zayn is getting on everyone's nerves, but his constant interruptions and nonsense is creating the chaos he needs to thrive himself.
