6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Jan 5 - Results & Review)

1. The Main Event’s Action (Pre-Finish)

Not to harp on the point, but the finish to that main event Triple Threat really did annoy. It was especially grating considering the quality of work Randy Orton, LA Knight and AJ Styles were putting in before Roman Reigns stupidly had his Bloodline troops interfere to cause a Fatal-4-Way at Royal Rumble.

Orton, Knight and Styles were on course to deliver something really special before the no contest decision occurred. Everyone (including LA when he might've got lost in the shuffle here) got enough licks in to look like strong candidates to win, and the bout was genuinely ticking along nicely before the sour ending.

Bummer, but at least WWE knows they can come back to this three man dynamic in the future if they need to. Hell, bung it on a few house shows to give live gates a thrill locally. It was pleasing to see AJ back on top form, and to see someone like Knight continue to show he belongs in the upper card mix.
