6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 31)

2. Corbin Gets Attacked From Behind...Twice

It's fine for babyfaces to ambush heels from behind every now and then.

It is, but it's overkill to book two identical attacks in the same segment. That's what happened to 'King' Corbin on SmackDown - he jawed off with Jeff Hardy, covering the same ground Sheamus had before him, before Drew Gulak whacked him from the rear. That led to a match between both.

Once that was done, Matt Riddle joined the party by blindsiding Corbin again. Didn't someone in creative stop to think that all these sneak attacks on someone who is supposed to be a coward himself actually gave Corbin some sympathy? It hardly made Gulak or Riddle look like heroic babyfaces worth cheering either.

The Gulak ambush was totally unnecessary. Corbin isn't even feuding with him, so WWE could've dropped that booking and left the attack to Riddle. At least he has some motivation after the 'King' put a hit out on him last week.
