6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 31)

Last week's SmackDown had Jeff Hardy pelting Sheamus with basketballs during their cinematic-style 'Bar Fight'. This week's episode, on the surface, had a lot more to offer - WWE were promising an IC Title match, a Women's Title main event and the continuation of Mandy Rose and Otis' love fest.

Things are looking up for the blue brand story-wise heading into the final four months of 2020. There's a heelish ransom on the go, the promise of a proper singles push for someone who has deserved one for the longest time and WWE finally seem ready to break up a female tag-team who are just sorta' overstaying their welcome.

They're also heading into SummerSlam season, which is a typically fun time (although the lack of fans and natural atmosphere will dampen spirits a bit). Armed with all that goodness, this week's SmackDown raced by yet again. It barely felt like a two-hour show, and that's a major plus point.

Opening show 30-second promo trains are also a nice addition. They stop the program's buzz from being halted by one of those formulaic 15-20 minute in-ring segments.
