6 Ups & 5 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (29 April)
5. Everyone Wants A Shot
This had to be addressed right off the bat.
Scott D’Amore had his office surrounded by essentially the entire IMPACT roster, insisting they all head to the ring so he could reveal the plan going forward. That’s when Don Callis stepped out of the office behind the former Team Canada man, telling D’Amore that Omega’s in-ring title celebration would be held via Zoom. Not good enough; D’Amore insisted that if ‘The Best Bout Machine’ wasn’t in the venue, he’d be stripped of the championship.
The roster were livid, and quite rightly so. They all wanted to be the guy to bring the IMPACT World Championship back to IMPACT Wrestling. Thus, D’Amore booked a six-way bout for the 15 May Under Siege special to determine Omega’s first challenger. If he didn’t make it to the building on this night, though, that match would turn into a vacant championship match.
This was some good stuff. There’s no clear definitive answer as to who should challenge Kenny first, and so holding six qualifying bouts to determine the possible contenders is arguably the best way to go, other than a fully-blown tournament or a Rumble-esque bout.
