6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (Dec 12 - Review)

Ups…

6. Not For Everyone, But…

Alexa Bliss Bianca Belair

Right up front, let’s be clear that not everyone – this writer included – is a fan of the idea of bringing back Alexa Bliss’ mystic-adjacent character that was affiliated with Bray Wyatt’s Fiend.

Bliss’ jumper-clad, childlike priestess was a star of the ThunderDome Era, with WWE reveling in the opportunity to use recorded performances to have Alexa perform “magic” as part of her act. She shot fireballs, changed wrestling gear – and personae – mid-match, took over the monitors, and made Randy Orton spit up black goo.

All of that went away shortly after WWE returned to recording in front of live crowds again. Bliss herself disappeared from TV for months, underwent therapy to shed her gimmick, then disappeared from TV for months again.

Recently, she’s started seeing Wyatt’s symbol on televisions at Raw and shown brief glimpses of the old Bliss. That happened on Monday night when Wyatt’s symbol flashed on the tron, leading Alexa to briefly hook Bianca Belair in a Sister Abigail before breaking the hold and fleeing the ring, confused.

While many probably have no desire to see Bliss return to this character – even in a more muted fashion – WWE seems to be doing it in a more measured way, piquing interest slowly and hopefully avoiding some of the pitfalls of before.

So yeah, not my cup of tea, but we’ll give partial credit here for those who might enjoy it.
