6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (26 June - Review)

4. Women Chatter, Brawl, Climb Ladder

Ladder Match

Ah yes, one of WWE’s favourite tropes: the summit between big match opponents. In this case, it was the six women facing off at Money in the Bank on Saturday, all in the ring on Raw, talking about why they were going to grab the briefcase.

It’s just such a tired cliché that we have to endure. Bayley’s stale heel act gave way to Iyo Sky sounding like a tweener, which cut to Zelina Vega running down Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus’ accomplishments – or more accurately, lack of accomplishment in MITB.

And then we got the obligatory brawl, with Lynch left alone to climb the ladder and retrieve the briefcase to symbolically hold on over her five opponents. Because, that’s what we do in WWE heading into Money in the Bank.

Predictable isn’t always bad. But when it’s a well-worn cliché that does nothing to advance or even attempt to tell a story, then knowing this is coming is reason to change the channel or fast-forward.
