6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (March 7)

5. Still Not Buying Omos

Does anyone else out there have more of an insight into Omos than this writer? Yes, he’s very tall and imposing, but what else is there?

WWE presented us with a video package talking up Omos’ accomplishments and attributes, then they gave him the Andre the Giant camera treatment for a backstage promo before sending him out to demolish Apollo Crews and stare down Commander Azeez.

But one of the more comical lines came from Corey Graves, who said Omos is “not like the giants of yesteryear” – he’s not some “tall, bumbling fool,” he’s a “superior athlete” with speed and agility.

Maybe it’s an unfair comparison, but Braun Strowman was probably one of the better examples of speed and agility for a big man, running around the ring, throwing dropkicks and moving decently for a guy billed at 6-foot-8.

Omos admittedly is billed as 7-foot-3 (seven inches taller), but he moves nowhere near as fast. He’s shown little improvement as he meanders around the ring. Perhaps he’s deliberately limiting what he does and has actually picked stuff up, but they’re not showing it on TV.

Yes, Omos is dominant as long as WWE books him that way, but his matches aren’t getting the shock and awe from fans – they look like they’re getting the “hey, let’s get popcorn” reaction.
