6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2020

As anyone in this pandemic era knows, one of the ways many professionals have continued on with business as close to normal as possible is through videoconferencing. These video meetings have opened the door to a new form of hacking, or Zoom-bombing.

When WWE announced it was creating the ThunderDome with thousands of virtual fans logging in and having their faces shown in the crowd, you had to wonder how long until something the company didn’t want to be seen would make it on-air. It would be the virtual equivalent to AEW signs and shirts.

We didn’t have to wait too long, as during the entrances for the Raw Women’s Championship match, a fan’s screen switched from their face to text that read, “Fire Velveteen Dream.” The words showed up right in the front row at least twice before it disappeared, the fan presumably removed from the virtual crowd.

Dream recently returned to NXT and participated in the North American Championship ladder match on Saturday at TakeOver: XXX, but he has been under fire for allegations of inappropriate behaviour with underage fans, and many feel that he should not be back on TV – or even employed by WWE at this point.
