6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2020

5. ‘Two Of The All-Time Greats’

We know WWE is given to have its announcers use hyperbole at all times, but calling two current wrestlers who have been on the main roster for less than five years “two of the all-time greats” is quite the stretch.

In this case, it was Michael Cole (who else?) talking about Bayley and Sasha Banks during the opening match.

First off, if you’re talking all-time, you’re talking about Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young, Trish Stratus, Lita, Beth Phoenix, Alundra Blayze, and a couple of others. But truthfully, it’s a stretch even to call them among the “greats” in modern WWE. Charlotte Flair, Asuka and Becky Lynch would eclipse the two of them in terms of “greatness” during the past several years.

But this is WWE, so greatness is probably measured by titles held, which is why we got a silly comment like this. None of this is to shortchange their accomplishments – this writer is a big fan of both women, and especially their work as the Golden Role Models – but when you use dumb hyperbole like that, it’s gonna get called out.
