6 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Fastlane 2021

4. Look! It’s Tag Partners Who Can’t Get Along!

Maybe, just maybe Sasha Banks piefacing and then slapping Bianca Belair would have been an “up” here… if WWE hadn’t beaten the trope of “tag partners who can’t get along” into the ground, buried, it, dug it up, lit it on fire, peed on it, and then re-buried it.

But because feuding tag partners is the one tag team story WWE seemingly can tell, when you actually have the need for it – such as WrestleMania opponents unable to hold it together in a tag title bout – it loses all meaning. In fact, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match featured two tag teams that couldn’t get along, with Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax arguing and blind-tagging each other.

Sure, having Banks and Belair at each others’ throats makes for a better rivalry, but why did we need to go the route of having them tag and squabble for an entire month before getting to this point?
