6 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 8)

3. Edge Is Playing Chess

Wait, so you mean sending Hall-of-Famer Edge to all three programs last week wasn’t an attempt to boost ratings? It was a clever ploy to keep all three world champions on high alert?

That’s what Edge told us on Monday night as he talked about waiting until after Elimination Chamber in two weeks to make his decision about which champ to face. With two PPVs between now and WrestleMania 37, it only makes sense to wait a bit before locking yourself into a match.

While letting us know he was keeping everyone on their toes, Edge was interrupted by Miz & John Morrison (and Angel Garza), who proceeded to warn Edge that he was going to use his briefcase to cash in at WrestleMania and leave as world champion.

At this point, Edge just incredulously asked if he realized he was talking to the Ultimate Opportunist, and chided Miz for telling him exactly what he was going to rather than play it closer to the vest. That little note – Edge calling out the villain who reveals his plans – was a nice job, as well as telling Miz he was playing a kids’ game while Edge was advanced.

It was just a nice way to put over Edge’s maturity without talking about how he’s older and recently unretired.
