6 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 37 - Night 2

3. A Misfire

Apollo Crews
WWE

Apollo Crews’ recent rebirth as Nigerian royalty has been strange, but considering how listless his WWE career has been, we’re more than willing to give that a pass.

But his Intercontinental Championship match against Big E was disappointing, to say the least. Crews and E battled in a Nigerian Drum Fight, which really was just a no-DQ/hardcore match with drums and a gong at ringside. The match came about after Big E defeated Apollo multiple times in IC title bouts, but regardless, it had promise.

Instead, just as the match seemed to be hitting its stride, Crews missed a frog splash through a table, and E hit a Big Ending, only for Dabba-Kato to resurface in a Sgt. Pepper knockoff outfit and hit E with an Asiatic Spike. He then dragged Apollo on top of E to capture IC gold.

The entire thing just felt off and never really clicked. Throw in the out-of-the-blue interference from Dabba-Kato and the fact that a drum was never used (or heard) during a Nigerian Drum Fight, and you have what can best (and most politely) be described as a misfire.
