6. Farewell Fuji

Depending on what you’ve read about Mr. Fuji, you either were saddened by his passing this weekend, or you were crying out “Good riddance” due to stories about extreme animal cruelty. For the purposes of this column, we’ll just simply focus on his contributions to the wrestling world.

Mr. Fuji was a five-time (W)WWF tag team champion, holding tag team gold longer than any other WWF wrestler in history – a record that will stand, unless Billy Gunn somehow finagles a three-week reign. He also managed Demolition to the tag titles and Yokozuna to the WWF Championship. He was easily one of the most recognizable managers in the WWF in the 1980s-90s.

Sure, he was regarded as the worst manager of the year by critics, and he was no Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, but Fuji was a memorable character in an era that was chock-full of them. And of course, there was always Fuji Vice…
