6 Ups And 1 Down For WWE NXT (Mar 10)
1. What Took You So Long?
Adam Cole's mission to become NXT Champion once again may have led to the Undisputed Era falling and the star earning more enemies than allies over the last few weeks, but he still had one sizeable obstacle to overcome in order to achieve his greedy goal. That being the current NXT Champion Finn Balor.
This battle to decide who was indeed the 'Greatest NXT Champion of All Time' got underway with an almighty bang as both bitter rivals flew into each other with rapid shoulder tackles and a spell of reversals that saw head-locks exchanged and superkicks dodged.
No doubt thinking twice about his decision to goad Cole into a match on the back of being superkicked week after week by the former Champion, Balor's vulnerable jaw was targeted by the challenger for much of the contest. With this pair knowing each other so well, though, momentum shifted by the move as Cole went to suplex the champ on the steel steps one minute and wound up eating his own after Balor slammed him onto the ramp back-first.
Then a missed Coup de Grace from Balor appeared to open the door for a Cole victory, with the latter nailing the Champion with an all too familiar superkick and locking in a jaw-isolating cross-face. Balor would not quit, however, and not even an exposed knee Last Shot could put him out of commission.
One chilling Kyle O'Reilly return and a 1916/Coup de Grace combo later, Balor was STILL your NXT Champion, but the show as not over.
Blocking a begging Cole's low blow attempt and stealing away his UE armband, O'Reilly erupted on his former pal. Determined not to be overshadowed, Karrion Kross then finally made his presence known, leading to Finn Balor asking the question on everyone's lips..."What took you so long?"
