6 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's NXT (16 Sep)

3. Xia And Desire

Felt a bit unfair to ask Catanzarro, Carter, Li, and Kamea to immediately follow one of the brand's best tag matches of 2020, but given this was purely exhibition stuff they acquitted themselves well. The former two we've seen as a team before, but Xia Li's really struggled to find her niche on NXT in recent months.

Her last two approaches saw her beaten by Aliyah in June, and beaten by Chelsea Green in April. A dire 2020 if ever I saw one.

While the highlight here was easily the athletic and lethal finish provided by Catanzarro and Carter, finally giving Li something as substantial as a heel-turn feels like a smart move. Admittedly it was only teased here, but her smiling her way down to the ring only to be beaten every week is a waste of her obvious talent. A mean streak that matches her ring style feels like a no-brainer.
