6 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's NXT (16 Sep)

4. Breezango The Distance

Breezango Imperium

I really, really liked the story here. Imperium have spent weeks calling Breezango a joke, and implying that they were the better wrestling team because they take wrestling more seriously. Yet Breezango went toe-to-toe with them, showed their wrestling chops, and won.

Classic WWE style would tell you that Breezango would win this AND make a joke out of the whole thing; painting the heels as absolute chumps and telling you nothing about the faces you didn't already know. But by having your boys dig deep and beat Imperium in a straight wrestling match, you show that, yeah, they had a point, but they also underestimated their opponents.

There might be some questions about this ending with a roll-up, but it's also a million miles away from the worn 'they stole one!!" trope we've seen on Raw and SmackDown. This wasn't a smash and grab, it was a tactical outmaneuvering, and a really enjoyable match to precede it.
