6 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0: Vengeance Day (Feb 15)

Ups...

6. Tony And Pete Brings The Goods

Hot on the heels of a surreal text-chain vignette sequence to kick off the most romantic night on the NXT 2.0 calendar, the frequently savage rivalry between Pete Dunne and Tony D'Angelo looked to reach its appropriately violent conclusion within four walls of steel. But wanting to add an extra sprinkle of sickening sugar to proceedings, said bout was, of course, enhanced into a "weaponised" variation upon its announcement last week and you'll be pleased to know this upgrade helped deliver the goods.

While other examples of this type of plunder brawl usually have a habit of just being extreme for the sake of it, callbacks to the duo's recent programme were present here throughout, with cricket bats used to swing for the fences, the cage itself being a nod to where the feud started in the first place at WarGames, and the body-breaking crowbar being a notable side-character for much of the bout.

And while at times it did feel like an attempt to cram as much carnage as humanly possible into a 10 or so minute war, the two managed to do this whilst still finding time to innovate - in a brilliant cable-tie sequence from The Bruiserweight - and tell a story - Dunne outsmarting the Wiseguy by sneaking his own crowbar in to deal the game-changing blow.

A fun bout that reminds us how tough D'Angelo is, whilst keeping Dunne strong for an eventual call up. Smart business.
