It's fair to state that much of the momentum and good will that had been sent the way of Cameron Grimes for much of the last twelve months or so appeared to have been a tad squandered as NXT embarked on their 2.0 venture. Gone was the focus on his loveable Dogefather character and in its place was a dude seemingly obsessed with finding love more than he was finding gold.

Are you sensing a theme with this new developmental direction yet?

However, a sudden jump into North American Championship contention thankfully pumped some new life back into a star who is still hilariously over with the CWC faithful, with Grimes besting Tony D to set up last night's thrilling NA title showdown with Carmelo Hayes.

And you got precisely what you'd expect out of two workers of this ilk; a match stuffed with more near-falls than you can shake a Trick at. But speaking of said equaliser, it was ultimately Melo's mate who helped keep Hayes from losing grip on his 'A' title. Eating a Cave In destined for the champ and almost costing Grimes the bout thanks to some rope interference - how he didn't get ejected in a similar fashion to Mandy Rose in the Toxic Attraction bout earlier in the night is anyone's guess - this presence would inevitably lead to a Hayes leaping leg drop for the victory.

But the nature of said defeat still leaves the door open for an enjoyable round two should 2.0 so choose to treat their fans once again. Hayes continues to put on low-key bangers and Grimes refuses to let his connection with those in attendance die.
