6 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (April 30th)
1. NXT Starting To Exhibit Some Of WWE's Bad Habits
These are still relatively minor bones to pick, but they bear mentioning because they represent the thin end of the wedge. In one show, NXT committed four sins, all of which are personal bugbears with WWE programming. Last night, the show started with a lengthy series of promos (it was 20 minutes into the hour-long show before any wrestling), it shilled Network programming in the middle of matches, it moved back to a three-man booth with Byron Saxton (which involved some squabbling between the men) and they were joined on commentary for the main event by Kevin Owens. What once was a pared-down viewing experience became somewhat noisier last night. During the main event, Owens asked the commentators to stop asking him questions and call the match in the ring, which wasn't getting nearly enough attention. Perhaps a coincidence, perhaps a sign that NXT might be crossing over to the darker side of TV production alongside RAW and Smackdown. But these incidents were still relatively small. Let's hope they don't become a trend.
