6 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Jan 11)
2. Melo Don't Miss On The Mic
In a slightly alternate direction to the one taken by Bron Breakker earlier in the night, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams took to celebrating their success at New Year's Evil by whipping up the crowd into a frenzy via their typically excellent mic work.
Williams tee'd up his golden pal like the underrated hype man he is before Melo exuded Money Mayweather charm in putting over his toughest task to date in the form of Roddy Strong. He then went on to p*ss all over his fallen adversary, but that's what a good heelish champ is expected to do, after all.
Sure, the labelling of his new title as a Unified North American Championship feels odd with the complete lack of Cruiserweight gold on show and it being henceforth stricken from history. Yet, Melo still feels every bit one of the brightest talents on the roster, with his effortless charisma and in-ring skill to back it making him a sure-fire contender for eventually mishandled talent on the main roster.
In all honesty, if WWE miss on this duo then there's genuinely no hope. But your writer is trying to hold onto some optimism, so who knows? Maybe that teased Phenomenal showdown will go down on a Tuesday or even Monday night before we know it. Until then, though, a Grimes/Melo battle should make for some frequently compelling bites of goodness over the coming weeks.
