6 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 37 - Night 1

1. A Star-Making Moment

We’ve said this before about WWE, and the company has always managed to let us down, but Bianca Belair made herself a star at WrestleMania 37, and WWE would do well to not screw it up.

Belair captured the SmackDown Women’s Championship in the main event, besting Sasha Banks in a match that pitted Bianca’s raw strength and athleticism against the Boss’ wily veteran ways. Belair turned heads early on when she rolled through a Sasha suicide dive, pressed her over her head, and carried Banks all the way up the steps and tossed her back in the ring. She continued with her freaky displays of strength throughout the match, causing this writer’s jaw to drop on more than one occasion, despite watching her in NXT.

Banks delivered on her end as well, as the two had a solid title match. One of the subtexts to the match was Sasha using Bianca’s long braid against her, and thankfully, it played into the finish, when they got into a tug-of-war over it, only for Belair to snatch it, whip Banks viciously, and then hit the KOD for the title.

All told, this was a great way to put over a new star, which hopefully is what we really saw Saturday night. And Belair is the real deal, so let’s hope WWE is all-in on her.
