Maybe it’s because there were low expectations going in, but the kickoff show match between Sasha Banks and Alicia Fox was surprisingly good.

Banks obviously is a quite capable wrestler who might not be able to carry a lesser performer, but can certainly make a good match better. Fox, on the other hand, has an uneven track record in the ring. She has a few flashy moves, but most of her focus is on her character as a deranged person.

Foxy played up her tantrums and goofiness (including trying to go for a pinfall on the floor), but she hung with Sasha pretty well, trading forearms and hitting a few rough-looking moves. The ending – with Alicia missing her scissors kick and Banks evading a tilt-o-whirl backbreaker to hit the Backstabber/Banks Statement – was nicely done.

It won’t set the world on fire, but it did its job.
