6 Ups And 6 Downs For WWE Day 1

1. An Unceremonious Ending

WWE Day 1 Big E Brock Lesnar

The end of Big E’s WWE Championship reign is going to be divisive as hell for fans.

On the one hand, Big E’s journey to winning the title and finally reaching the mountaintop was the story, not how many days he could hold onto it. He successfully defended the title against Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre and Austin Theory, so it wasn’t an empty run.

On the other hand, E basically got fed to Brock Lesnar, losing his title to a part-timer who parachutes in, avoids overstaying his welcome, and amasses world title reigns while never having to do the day-to-day stuff. E even ate the pin, so he can’t make the argument that his shoulders weren’t pinned to the mat.

Lesnar picks up another trophy, which he might defend at the next “premium live event,” and then he might disappear until WrestleMania 38 to stand on the biggest stage of them all, while Big E could possibly end up not on the card, in a multi-man match, or in a restarted Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

There are arguments for being negative. We’ll explore the positives later.
