6 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Dec 12)
3. The Gentlemanly Way To Interfere
Just when it looked like we were getting a pedestrian cruiserweight match, it became clear that it was just window-dressing for a great, unique moment.
Ariya Daivari lost to Jack Gallagher last week and displayed some sour grapes, stomping down the Extraordinary Gentleman afterward. Daivari then won a rematch on 205 Live the next night. Monday, Daivari was facing Lince Dorado in a match greeted with silence… until Gallagher came out.
But unlike the typical interference that WWE loves (music hits, wrestler walks out, superstar in ring gets insanely distracted and rolled up for a loss), Gallagher announced his intention to interfere – a practice he abhors – because Daivari is a scoundrel. This naturally drew a “scoundrel” chant, and then fight was on.
A tweak to the typical angle-driven interference like this worked really well, as it showed off Gallagher’s unique personality and provided a memorable little moment – plus a “scoundrel” chant, which is probably the first of its kind.
