6 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (July 30)

2. Elias

Down to one name after previously having two and a nickname, the former 'Drifter' continues to improve despite the disappearing monikers.

His derivative ditty at Pittsburgh's expense was possibly his best effort since introducing the acoustic irritant more prominently into his act, expertly claiming to be inspired by the city before ruthlessly tearing it down before token jobber Kalisto interrupted to do his civic duty for the week.

The match, like many, many matches of the three hour era of Monday Night Raw almost didn't happen whilst it was happened. Absolutely nothing of note that resembled the traditional ebb and flow of a competitive professional wrestling contest really occurred until Elias hit 'Drift Away' for the predictable win, but the newcomer generated the requisite levels of frustration from the crowd nonetheless.

Though currently not worth getting too excited about, Elias tiptoes towards the raw bones of a pleasing heel run with each passing week, and the continued brilliance of his infuriating pre-match melodies help carry the weight of his largely uninteresting matches. Being a bit boring bell-to-bell is one of the only ways to draw genuine heat in the post-modern era, so in a sense, Elias is on the verge of having the complete package.
