6 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (August 26)
UPS…
6. Witty Commentary
We often are hard on the announcers – rightfully so – for their obnoxious, distracting commentary, so it’s only fair that this column give them a couple nods upward for Monday night, even if overall the commentary was average.
During the tag team turmoil match, Renee Young was desperate to see Otis hit a Caterpillar. She was denied once, but when the opportunity arose again, she belted out, “Make mama’s dreams come true!” That sent Corey Graves into fits as he begged her to never say that in his presence again.
Later, Sasha Banks made her in-ring return after four months away, which Graves said was only welcomed by two people: her accountant and “the guy who makes her ring gear.” The joke here is that Sasha is married to WWE costume designer Sarath Ton, so “the guy who makes her ring gear” would be her husband.
It was the kind of in-joke that worked if you didn’t get it, but if you did, it just gave you a reason to smile a little.
