6 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 36 (Part 2)

2. Fiend ‘Ends’ ‘Overhyped’ Cena

While Saturday’s Boneyard Match was widely praised, it’s likely that Sunday’s Firefly Funhouse match will be much more divisive.

Bray Wyatt challenged John Cena to this “match,” which was more of a series of vignettes tracing the two wrestlers’ careers rather than a contest. The puppet Vince McMahon, Mercy the Buzzard and Huskus all made appearances as they recreated Cena’s WWE debut against Kurt Angle (with Bray playing the role of Kurt), a Saturday Night’s Main Event promo, Cena as the Doctor of Thugonomics (in a Yankees jersey as a smart wink), a classic nWo promo, Wyatt as a cult leader, and Cena and Bray’s WrestleMania 30 match.

There was really no “wrestling” here, just a series of promos and Cena being unable to get his hands on Wyatt. Finally, the Fiend appeared, locked in the Mandible Claw, hit Sister Abigail and reapplied the Claw, finally downing Cena. And then John disappeared.

Look, if you just wanted something different and wanted to see the Fiend topple Cena, then you were satisfied. But if you had higher expectations after the Boneyard Match, then you likely were disappointed. We’ll give this positive marks, but it’s completely understandable if you hated it.
