6. Stick To Calling The Match

At the risk of being called an SJW…

What the hell was up with Corey Graves and Michael Cole’s weird rant on toxic masculinity? It came out of nowhere during the EC3/Dean Ambrose match, with Cole saying EC3 describes himself as “toxic masculinity.” That led Graves to go on and on about how it’s not really toxic, then dropping a Jonah Hill reference, because the actor discussed rebelling against the concept of toxic masculinity recently.

All the while, Renee Young – the woman on commentary – seemed flabbergasted to have to be part of this, asking, “What are you talking about?” and trying to make a joke by referencing Britney Spears’ song “Toxic.” She sounded genuinely flustered by this crap.

And before the long knives come out, here’s the point: CALL THE DAMN MATCH. No one cares about this kind of stupid social commentary, especially when it’s utterly pointless. There was no message here and no reason for it, just an excuse for Vince McMahon or the writers or Graves himself (who had an odd Twitter battle with fans over the weekend) to rant live on TV.

To quote Arn Anderson, “It says ‘marquee’ on the wrestling!”
