6 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Crown Jewel 2019

Downs...

8. Battle Royal Stupidity

In WWE, comedy, not competition, reigns supreme. Sorry, “comedy.”

That means that rather than watching a battle royal that focusing on intense competition to earn a United States Championship title match, you’ll see dumb things like No Way Jose trying to get Luke Harper and Erick Rowan to dance. (He got beaten up and tossed.) Or you’ll see Akira Tozawa try to stand up to Rowan and then (figuratively) defecate himself when Harper comes up behind him. You’ll see Drake Maverick try to slam Rowan, because it’s funny, see?

And look, this writer isn’t a total curmudgeon. Comedy spots when done well are entertaining as hell. But none of that was funny. And with a title shot on the line, why is Jose trying to get two of the biggest heels to dance?

In a match where very little stood out positively, dumb things are magnified.
