The outcome of the Randy Orton/Luke Harper match never really was in doubt, but the outstanding question centered on how much of a fight Harper would put up before falling to the 2017 Royal Rumble winner.

The answer apparently was “a hell of a big fight.” Harper brought all of his offense to the match, hitting Orton with superkicks, a sit-out powerbomb, slingshot senton and a few other moves. Orton, to his credit, made Harper look good even in defeat, with the two men kneeling and trading bombs late in the match, complete with fans chanting “Boo!/Yay!”

The announcers called it Harper’s coming-out party, a standout performance, and indeed it could be – provided the writers don’t drop the ball with him. It would be nice to see them follow up Harper’s strong performance.
