Battleground will go down as quite an inconsequential PPV that found itself like a boat without a rudder once the draft was announced.

As a result of the draft last week, the July PPV was left in no man’s land, with several matches suddenly taking place between two men who had been drafted to different brands, making those matches essentially one-offs rather than the start (or continuation) of a feud. The one notable exception? Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, who were billed as fighting for the last time before the draft.

At the end of the evening, no titles changed hands, no one jumped from one brand to another, and nothing of significance (beyond a few really good matches) really happened. We won’t see Bray Wyatt tormenting the New Day after his big win, the Club no longer will have AJ Styles’ back, and Owens and Zayn will be back at it in no time.
