6 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE No Mercy 2016

7. Another Meaningless Tag Match

From a purely entertainment standpoint, the eight-man tag match between American Alpha and the Hype Bros versus the Vaudevillains and the Ascension was good fun, with decent action and a couple good spots, including the end.

But beyond that, what purpose did the tag match serve, other than to give eight men some pre-PPV time? Sure, we know Jason Jordan and Chad Gable are cooling their heels until they can feud with the Usos and that they needed to stay in the spotlight a little, but still. We’ve seen several of these multi-tag team matches during the past two months, which might be entertaining, but not much else.

It’s not that these matches have no place in WWE, but it’s a little disappointing that we couldn’t have gotten a straight tag match set up on SmackDown last week to put Alpha in the spotlight with at least some stakes rather than just a multi-team bout.
