6 Ways For WWE To Revitalize The Mid-Card
1. Bring Back Competitions To Push Superstars
Superstars in the mid-card are often directionless, and there is no easier way to give these wrestlers purpose than by putting them in meaningful competitions. While certain competitions have lost their prestige- sorry, King Of The Ring, but it's true- there are many that can still be used to build superstars and make mid-card titles feel more important.
Why doesn't WWE have a Beat The Clock Challenge for a mid-card title opportunity? This style of competition provides RAW and SmackDown with a simple, yet intriguing, episode-long story arc. It would afford wrestlers who don't see much TV time the opportunity to participate in meaningful matches. Mansoor, Dana Brooke, Elias, Shorty G; a Beat The Clock Challenge would be the perfect opportunity for WWE to use these types of wrestlers and see if they can make connections with the crowd.
How about something as simple as a tournament to determine the next #1 contender to the United States or Intercontinental championship? Instead of a title opportunity, other PPVs- such as Money In The Bank, Royal Rumble, and the battle royals at WrestleMania- can increase their prestige if wrestlers have to go through several gruelling matches to earn a place on those cards.
Not only would increasing the number of competitions give wrestlers more direction and purpose, but natural storyline progressions will come out of these matches for more than just the winner.
More competitions makes more compelling TV and utilizes the depth of talent on WWE's roster.
