WWE went back to the Rey Mysterio booking school when it came to Christian's time with the World Heavyweight Championship. After picking up a monumental win against Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules 2011 (with the help of his freshly retired best friend, Edge), the former CLB actually got to take his prize home for a couple of nights before he lost the belt the following Tuesday to Randy Orton.

Initially, Christian overcoming Del Rio to win his first world title was a fantastic, well-deserved moment for an underrated worker (no, ECW Championship, you do not count). Pairing him up with Orton seemed like a great idea, but the thrill of the chase never materialised for Randy, as he took the title at the first attempt.

The matches between the two were great, and Christian's heel turn gave us a fresh dimension to his usually-beloved character; though the 'one more match' speech got old quickly. Christian won the belt back by taking a swift kick to the plums from Randy, getting nearly a month this time before one more defeat to The Viper ended Christian's time in the main event. A tale of what could have been, but at least he got his moment.
