6 Wrestlers Who Have Quit WWE In 2019

1. Dean Ambrose

There hasn't been a bigger WWE departure this year, and because of what followed, nor will there be.

A horrendous, legitimately life-threatening triceps injury looked to have proved invaluable in refreshing a Dean Ambrose brand that had gradually became staler than a teenager's bedroom when he returned to action in late 2018. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and it apparently it makes your body grow stronger too; the Shield man re-emerged looking in better physical nick than ever. Was Ambrose finally going to fulfill his promise as a legitimate main-event draw?

Of course he wasn't. The miniature Shield reunion was brought to a tragic end when Roman Reigns' leukaemia diagnosis intervened, but not before WWE could enact a needlessly callous heel turn for the recently returned Ambrose off the back of it. Basking in the heat of heartbreak was one thing, but creative decided to needle the point - literally on one occasion - by having Ambrose make repeated reference to his real-life friend's illness, all for the sake of a crap wrestling show.

It was "such good sh*t" that Vince and co. probably never bargained on Ambrose rejecting every offer of a new deal out of hand. Come April 2019 this year, he was leaving, no matter what - it was time for a break from the industry, he told his employers.

How he duped them. Almost the second Ambrose's contract expired, Jon Moxley was reborn. He's now one of the hottest names in the industry. The potential, just about, has been fulfilled for real.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
