6 Wrestling Moves That Need To Make A Comeback

4. Side Russian Leg Sweep

Like a lot of things on this list, the Side Russian Leg Sweep is a transitional maneuver, in this case designed for the wrestler in control to floor their opponent and move onto some mat wrestling. Starting by standing next to their already unsteady opponent, the performer wraps one arm around their neck and a leg around their leg, then hurls both of them backwards to the floor. Their body weight added to the leg wrap can take down even larger opponents with the move.

If you look closely, this is one of those moves that looks like it should hurt the performer a bit more than the person it's happening to, but it rarely feels like the impact is the aim of the move. Instead, the Side Russian Leg Sweep should be all about taking down your opponent before dropping a sharp hit from the turnbuckles or hitting them with some mat wrestling.

This simple transition can make even more limited wrestlers look like they're thinking tactically in the ring, raising the estimate of their ring IQ amongst fans and making each match flow more evenly.
