7 Babyface Wrestling Tag Teams Which Flopped As Heels

6. The Road Warriors

Looking like the War Boys from Mad Max had suddenly discovered their local gym, The Road Warriors were a breath of fresh air when they hit the North American scene in the mid-1980s. Eventually making their way to Jim Crockett Promotions and the NWA, Hawk and Animal were face-painted bad asses that fans lapped up.

That wasn't the original plan. The Road Warriors were supposed to be vicious heels who battered babyface heroes like Dusty Rhodes and Sting, but the people couldn't get enough of them. In order to get cheered against the 'American Dream', you have to be over, and Paul Ellering's spiky shoulder pad-wearing muscle men were surely that.

This had been true in the AWA too. There, The Road Warriors struggled to elicit boos even though they were battering hapless jobbers by the dozen and being booked to look like killers. Fans loved the team's fresh feel, and The Road Warriors became characters destined to be career babyfaces from that point on.
