It shouldn't be forgotten that Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were supposed to be invading forces from 'up North' sent to take over poor little WCW in 1996. Long before they were selling t-shirts by the truck load as the nWo and causing fans to view opponents like dorks, the invasion storyline WCW flirted with definitely wanted The Outsiders to hear boos.

Retrospect makes it clear that was never going to happen, simply because Hall and Nash were everything that WCW wasn't. Hip and happening, the laid back cool of both revealed just how behind the times 'Dubya-C-Dubya' was, and fans were only too willing to jump on the bandwagon to cheer this slick new revolution.

Quickly, Eric Bischoff changed tact and the New World Order became renegade heroes more than anything else. The anti-establishment feel of Hall and Nash fed this craze, turning WCW into pro wrestling's most chic product. So much for the heel takeover then, because The Outsiders were treated like wrestling royalty and embraced by fans.
