7 Best Obsessive Wrestling Storylines
1. Sting Stalks The nWo
On the subject of feature films, it was 'The Crow' that opened new doors for Sting in 1996-1997 and turned him from bleach-blonde good guy into monochrome vigilante.
Eric Bischoff (and WCW as a whole) do not get enough credit for refusing to hot-shot Sting's new character into a quick money-grabbing pay-per-view match against Hollywood Hogan and his nWo cronies quickly. Instead, the company held off on Sting's attack on the focal point of the group but made his purpose abundantly clear.
He, jilted by suggestions from friends that he'd turn on WCW and join the nWo, was there to nobly defend the promotion that had made him against its biggest threat. To prepare for war, Sting watched from the rafters, only occasionally striking from the shadows before pointing a black baseball bat at Hogan.
The dominance of the New World Order and it's iron-like grip on WCW's product turned the babyface of the 90s into a bleak, emotionless guardian who was both haunted and driven by the need to spurn Hogan's crew. It was masterful storytelling, and one of the best angles WCW ever produced.
