7 Best WWE Flag Matches Ever

2. Hulk Hogan Vs. Nikolai Volkoff (Saturday Night's Main Event, October 5, 1985)

This is one of the more famous examples of a Flag Match since it took place on Saturday Night's Main Event in 1985 when Hulk Hogan the WWE Champion. He took on the Russian Nikolai Volkoff, who was managed by the great "Classy" Freddie Blassie. Hogan was on fire early on, but then Volkoff hit his backbreaker for a nearfall. He took a really long time to make the cover, so Hogan was able to kick out. After Volkoff hit a body slam, Hogan did his Hulking Up routine. He didn't even have to do the big boot before the leg. Volkoff just went down after going into the turnbuckle. Hogan got the win in a short match that went about six minutes. When it was over, Hogan gave a headbutt to the USSR flag and then shined his shoes with it. He slammed the flag down and spit on it. Then Hogan waved the American flag in front of the appreciative crowd. Those actions on the flag weren't really babyface like, but he did it anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc7_lbEirnA It was billed as a Flag Match although there really wasn't anything special about it since they just wrestled a regular match. The only thing that was unique about it was that Volkoff had the USSR flag in his corner like usual while Hogan had the American flag in his corner.
