7 Biggest Missed Opportunities From WWE Royal Rumble 2019
6. John Cena's Absence
When John Cena returned to Raw at the beginning of the year, he officially announced that he would be participating in the men's Royal Rumble match. Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out that way as WWE announced last week, via their website, that Cena's Rumble status was up in the air following an injury that he sustained on the previous week's Raw.
That was the last we heard of things until Sunday evening when, mere hours before the event was due to begin, the company officially confirmed that Cena would not be at the Royal Rumble. While his absence is not actually WWE's fault, given that the real reason 'The Leader of the Cenation' missed the event was due to the fact that he began shooting his latest film on the same day, things could have been handled much better.
The ambiguity surrounding the whole thing could be down to a now-shelved angle involving Lars Sullivan, but the fact that they significantly dragged things out while refusing to confirm Cena's status until the very last minute left his fans feeling very short-changed and the Rumble match without one of its biggest stars (or a suitable replacement).
