7 Dropped Impact Wrestling Talents Who Became Stars Elsewhere

Although Dexter Lumis is now a hyped act on the NXT brand, his run with Impact Wrestling was what got the momentum going for his career. Even though he signed with TNA under his real name Samuel Shaw in 2010, he didn’t earn his first real main roster push until 2012.

Sam Shaw was a Gut Check competitor and lost his tryout match to Doug Williams. Despite the defeat, Shaw was signed to a developmental contract and picked up his first televised win against Alex Silva in November 2012. Shaw would spend three more years with Impact Wrestling, feuding with the likes of Mr Anderson and Gunner, while also maintaining a running storyline with Christy Hemme.

Shaw announced his departure from Impact Wrestling in 2015 after winning no championships but went on to pick up multiple titles on the American indie scene. In 2019, he was signed by NXT and repackaged as the eerie, odd and lurking character, Dexter Lumis, which is somewhat reminiscent of his Impact Wrestling run.
