7 Early DISASTERS From WWE In Saudi Arabia

2. Old Men Stumbling (Super ShowDown, 2019)

Bet you didn’t realize that Roman Reigns jobbing to Shane McMahon at Super ShowDown 2019 wasn’t the worst thing that happened on that card. That’s because the main event boasted two well past-their-prime legends who showed up in Saudi Arabia for the payday and nearly crippled each other.

Undertaker versus Goldberg would have been a huge money match in WWE at any point from 2003 when the icon first showed up, through his initial return in 2016. But by 2019, the wheels had fallen off for both men, with the excessive Saudi heat spelling disaster for this main event.

Early on, Goldberg charged Taker and legit headbutted the ringpost, concussing himself. Things quickly went downhill. Goldberg went for a Jackhammer, only to very nearly drop Undertaker right on his head/neck. Goldberg botched an attempted Tombstone himself before Taker ended the match with one of the saddest chokeslams ever seen.

One might be tempted to sympathize with two men who were north of 50 at the time battling in oppressive heat and then dealing with Goldberg’s mid-match concussion, but then you remember the cash grab that these shows and the wrestlers’ appearances were, and that sympathy quickly leaves your body. This was just an awful, legacy-crippling match that very nearly ended both men’s careers out of embarrassment.
