7 Horrible Truths About WWE's Future

5. Marquee Matches Will Continue To Overshadow

Cena Rock Old As unpopular as the Cena vs Rock double-header at 'Mania 28 and 29 was with hardcore fans, the matches inarguably resulted in an inflated buy rate. While the WWE's most loyal followers have little desire to see past superstars inserted automatically at the top of the biggest card of the year, such bouts are what truly attracts a wider global audience. This may seem good business sense, but it has a considerable downside. This reliance upon big marquee matches demonstrates a relative lack of faith with the current crop of talent, but represents a quick-fix solution rather than a more sensible desire to organically get the current roster over with fans. WrestleMania cards in the Attitude Era didn't have to rely upon stars of a whole decade prior to flesh out the show, yet in recent years we've seen Sting vs Triple H, Lesnar vs Triple H, and Cena vs Rock (twice). This begs the question: in ten years time, will fans be excited to see two of the current roster return for a big WrestleMania clash?
