As one of the NWA's leading lights, Magnum T.A. was well on his way to becoming one of wrestling's top stars when his career was brutally cut short following a car crash in 1986.

After losing control of his Porsche, Magnum plowed into a telephone pole. The vehicle was wrecked, and so were the wrestler's C4 and C5 vertebrae. Both, as horrendous as it sounds, exploded in the smash and left the man paralysed. Doctors later claimed that T.A.'s peak physical conditioning helped save his life.

It'd be months before Magnum started to regain feeling on the right side of his body again. As if that wasn't enough to deal with, he also had to face the fact that his in-ring career was over. Just like that, a man considered by many to be a surefire future NWA Heavyweight Champion was forced to step away from the ring.

Adding to the horror, forensic reports suggested that Magnum had been in his smashed up car for around two hours before anyone found him and called emergency services.
