7 Huge Mistakes WWE Made With Chris Jericho's Debut Year

6. Feuding With Chyna For Three Long Months Didn't Help

By the end of 1999, Jericho was starting to get cheered a lot more. He was so entertaining that the fans really got behind him and WWE had no choice - they had to make him into a babyface. In doing so, they put him in a feud with Chyna that lasted several months. Looking back on the Chyna feud, it probably could have ended after a month or two as they battled over the IC Title. Instead, they wrestled at three PPVs in a row with Chyna winning the first time at Survivor Series, Jericho winning the second one at Armageddon and then they did this ridiculous "joint IC Champion" angle with them that led to a three way match with Bob Holly at the 2000 Royal Rumble. Eventually Jericho emerged as the IC Champion. It's just weird that they would waste all that time having him feud with Chyna considering how many talented guys were on the roster. It's not that she was that bad of a performer. It was just silly to have to watch Jericho try to sell for her as if she's some power wrestler when she's smaller than him. It's something Jericho complained about in his book (the second one) and how Chyna was difficult for him to feud with.
