This is a case of WWF taking liberties with the “card subject to change” line at the bottom of its wrestling cards.

In 1999, Stone Cold Steve Austin desperately needed some time off due to injuries, but yet he was still booked on shows, including in a WWF Championship bout at Survivor Series that year. And so, the PPV began with Austin still listed as a challenger for the title.

But during the show, Austin was run down by a car, creating an opening to challenge for the top title. And wouldn’t you know it, Show – who had attacked his team and won a Survivor Series elimination match by himself – walked away from this triple threat between him, The Rock and Triple H with the title.
