7 Last-Minute WWE PPV Replacements That Rocked

2. Vengeance: Night Of Champions 2007 – Johnny Nitro

This one is a little tough to mention due to its macabre surroundings.

Bobby Lashley had been stripped of the ECW World Championship, setting up a PPV bout for the vacant title between CM Punk and Chris Benoit. If you’re paying attention to the time of year, you probably know where this is going. The night before Vengeance, Benoit killed his son, wife and himself at their home.

Benoit would miss Vengeance, and he would be replaced by Johnny Nitro, who would go on to win the title and help launch his career. Nitro would change his last name to Morrison and adopt a persona closer to Doors lead singer Jim Morison. That change would define Morrison during his WWE career.

It’s scary to think that all of it started at this tragic event.
