7 Match Star Ratings For WWE Hell In A Cell 2021

5. Seth Rollins Vs. Cesaro

A diminished return of an excellent WrestleMania match that undid the whole point of it, the seven year-old "WWE should push Cesaro!" take was becoming very annoying to read, so the news is not all bad.

They should. He's enormously talented. But it was never going to happen, and it's less likely to happen now.

This was the most uninspiring version of an objectively good pro wrestling match imaginable. The pacing was methodical early, the work not particularly charged with emotion despite the sensible opening flurry. This was solid, and its reception depends on the extent to which you are able to do cartwheels over very solid wrestling in 2021, with the ThunderDome as a backdrop and Michael Cole screaming over every single last move that isn't a rest hold.

Is "solid" really a word you want to use to describe your escapist hobby of choice? Is "solid" enough? Is "solid" acceptable when Cesaro, a blow-away explosive wrestler at his best, is working a gentleman's three?

The rhythm was a typically slow-it-down-for-the-thick-marks WWE special, and the only memorable story beat was strange. Cesaro was under the apprehension that Seth's glove was the Undertaker's urn or some sh*t. The match crackled with a certain electricity by the finish, but WWE ruined that when Rollins stole one.

Content for content's sake when the content was produced far more effectively two long months ago.

You might read this and roll your eyes. Two very good wrestlers put on a worthy match. What more do you want?

So what. The story was abject comedy, the blowoff technically flawless with zero soul or spark.

Star Rating: ★★★
